It rains a lot in this country. If you live in the UK and you have a garden, that garden of yours is frequently going to get wet.
This is nothing new, but it is something to bear in mind when you're shopping for outdoor tiles. Your patio will need to be capable of withstanding Britain's infamously wet weather, but perhaps even more importantly, you need to know that your paving won't get too slippery after a shower.
After all, you don't want to slip and hurt yourself when you're trying to relax and enjoy your garden!
Choose the right texture!
Porcelain pavers can be a highly slip resistant choice for outdoor spaces, but it's important to select the right texture. A smooth, polished tile will naturally be a lot more slippery than a textured paving slab.
Here at PrimaPorcelain, we assign each of our products a 'grip factor' rating out of 5. The higher the rating, the less slippery your porcelain pavers will be.
For example, our 20mm thick Concrete Silver porcelain paving has a grip factor rating of 5, so this product is about as slip resistant as it gets - perfect for outdoor spaces that see a lot of rain! Compare that with (for example) our 10mm thick Tirolo White porcelain tiles, which have a grip factor rating of just 2 and are thus suitable for indoor use only.
(Don't worry, though - if you like the look of our Tirolo White tiles, they're also available as 20mm thick pavers with a grip factor rating of 5.)
What makes porcelain paving so slip resistant?
As you've seen, the slipperiness of porcelain is largely determined by the surface texture. But it helps that porcelain is far less porous than natural stone.
What this means is that, when it rains, porcelain pavers absorb significantly less moisture than stone paving slabs would. Instead, that water stays on the surface of the porcelain tile and evaporates quickly, leaving your patio dry and relatively slip resistant.
