10 Benefits of Porcelain Tiles

Porcelain tiles/paving slabs are becoming an increasingly popular alternative to natural stone products, and it isn’t difficult to see why: porcelain looks beautiful in almost any setting, and its technical specifications are truly outstanding. Here are just a few reasons to select porcelain for your next project:

Low Maintenance

PrimaPorcelain products have a very low porosity level (less than 0.05%), so they never need to be sealed. The only maintenance required is an annual jet wash with warm, soapy water.

Similarity to Natural Stone

Modern porcelain paving is practically indistinguishable from natural stone products. PrimaPorcelain’s tiles and paving slabs emulate the appealing characteristics of stone (colour variation, veining, fossilisation, etc.) while eliminating the drawbacks and maintenance requirements.

Profile Thickness

Until recently, porcelain was only made in a relatively thin profile (roughly 9-12mm). However, new technologies allow manufacturers to create 20mm thick paving slabs; these thicker tiles are exceptionally sturdy, and it is possible to ‘dry install’ them without any cement or adhesive.

Slip-Resistant

Since our low-porosity porcelain products absorb very little moisture, any surface water will evaporate very quickly, minimising the risk of slips. Each of our products is awarded a Grip Factor rating (1 to 5) to help you choose a suitably slip-resistant tile for your space.

Stain-Resistant

As mentioned above, our porcelain products are very moisture-resistant: their low porosity means that spills and messes cannot soak into the tile and cause stains.

Scratch Resistant

In a deep abrasion resistance test (EN ISO 10545/6) that requires a result of less than 175mm3, our dense, hard porcelain passed with a result of 139mm3. Any marks (made by furniture, etc.) can be easily brushed away, leaving no visible scratching on the surface.

Fade-Resistant

Our porcelain tiles are weather/UV-resistant, which reduces the risk of colour fade over time. All raw materials are cooked at 1,200°C, effectively ‘locking’ the pigmentation into each tile.

Frost Proof

Porcelain is highly frost resistant. Our products can tolerate sub-zero temperatures, and this important quality makes it an ideal solution for patios, swimming pools, and hard landscaping in cold climates.

Superb Strength

Porcelain is denser in composition and more hard-wearing than standard ceramic tiles. This is because porcelain is baked at such a high temperature that it ‘vitrifies’ (converts into a solid, very dense material).

Use Indoors and Outdoors

Since we supply porcelain tiles for both indoor and outdoor use, it is easy to create a seamless transition from your interior to your exterior space by using the same design in both locations.
